Fifteen years ago today, my father passed away. At that time, he only had one great grandchild. That was my oldest child, Christina's son Cody. (The picture on the left is Chris and Grampa.)
Wow, today there are literally dozens!!
My mother and father taught me the values I still hold close today. There was not much money, but to us six kids, it didn't seem like it. We always had plenty to eat, rode our bikes all over the country side (well as far as our aching legs would take us and back) played card games, board games, and had a great time on the 3 acres we lived on. Mom and Dad always had a garden which fed our family of 8 all year long. They literally had a 2 acre garden. Boy, did I hate that! So much weeding in that hot sun. But, today, that is what I keep dear in my memories. I learned to can peaches, green beans, tomato sauce, whole tomotoes, freeze corn, cherries, peas, broccoli, and much more.
I use these experiences today, to fill my freezer and canning shelves.
Another thing we learned, was money pays the bills, it's not a cure all. You work to live, not live to work!!! It doesn't make you happy. Family, love and good values do!!! I tried to instill this in my children. Don't know if I did or not, but I sure did try!!
Everytime my husband and I start a new project, I wonder what Dad would think!!
Miss and love him and Mom terribly!
